Two major surface treatment methods for PTFE boards
Jul 08, 2019

1. The surface of the PTFE board is subjected to a high temperature melting method:

The high-temperature melting method changes the crystal morphology of the PTFE surface at high temperature, and embeds some materials with high surface energy and easy adhesion, such as SiO2, Al powder, etc., after cooling, a layer of viscous material is formed on the surface of the PTFE. Modified layer. Since the molecules of the easy-adhesive substance enter the PTFE surface layer molecules, the bonding strength is high. The advantage of using this method is that the weather resistance and heat and humidity resistance of the PTFE sheet are improved. Suitable for long-term outdoor use of PTFE materials. The downside is that at high temperature sintering, PTFE releases a toxic substance, perfluoroisobutylene, and is difficult to maintain shape.

2. The surface of the PTFE board is subjected to radiation grafting:

The PTFE is placed in a polymerizable monomer such as styrene, fumaric acid or methacrylate, and the monomer is chemically graft polymerized on the surface of the PTFE by irradiation of 60Co, thereby forming a layer on the surface of the PTFE. Bonded graft polymer. After the grafting, the surface of the PTFE sheet becomes rough, the bonding surface area is increased, and the bonding strength is improved. The utility model has the advantages of simple operation, short processing time and high speed, but the modified PTFE surface loses the original smoothness and luster, and the 60Co radiation source is harmful to the human body.
